The development of the capital market in Kuwait was given an impetus when IBK became the first Kuwaiti borrower to raise funds by way of a bond issue in Kuwaiti Dinars in 1975. The issuance of bonds and certificates of deposit led the bank to an advanced stage of growth in banking operations and thus enabled it in play the role of a market maker in deposits denominated in Kuwaiti Dinar.
